Eugene Van Vrede | Artist Bio
Eugene Van Vrede is an artist whose work captures the soul and character of Africa’s wildlife. Since leaving the corporate world in 2015 to pursue art full-time, he has become widely recognized for his mastery of light and his contemporary, realistic interpretations of the natural world.
Eugene’s portfolio, once centered on oil painting, sepia ink, and charcoal, has recently expanded into the tactile realms of fine art ceramics and sculpture. This evolution represents a deeper exploration of his subjects; where he once used paint to mimic three-dimensional space, he now uses clay to physically manifest the strength and grace of the animals he depicts.
Extending his vision further into the home, Eugene also produces a range of bespoke fabrics and scatter cushions. Printed on high-quality natural fibers, these pieces allow his evocative studies of his subjects to transition from the gallery wall into functional, everyday living spaces.
From his signature oil paintings to his organic sculptures and textiles, Eugene’s work remains a testament to the beauty of African, rendered with a deep respect for both his subjects and the materials he employs.
